Pulmonary fibrosis is a lung condition that causes scarring in the lung tissue, leading to difficulty breathing and a dry cough. Like many lung diseases, pulmonary fibrosis may result in more than just scar tissue in the lungs. Pulmonary fibrosis is a disease in a family of over 200 lung diseases called interstitial lung disease, most of which exhibit similar symptoms.
Medical professionals can help you with managing the symptoms of pulmonary fibrosis, but you play the most active role in your treatment of the disease. If you follow your doctor’s instructions and tips, make necessary lifestyle changes, get educated, and ask for support, living with and treating pulmonary fibrosis is an easier feat.
Voice your concerns
When you are worried or confused about aspects your condition and/or treatment, do not shy away from addressing them with your doctor. Your doctor is there to improve your health and help you through your concerns throughout your treatment.
Be ready for your doctor’s visits and take notes
Make a list of questions to bring to your doctor because if you are unsure as to what you want to discuss or what your concerns are, your doctor cannot connect the dots themselves. Write down tips and instructions of pertinence, and even the answers to your questions to absorb the information more.
Seek emotional support
Having family members and friends around you understand what you go through on a daily basis is essential. Coping with the psychological effects of the disease can also be made easier with support. Breaking habits for a healthier lifestyle to improve the quality of life is also easier with a strong emotional support system.
Keep learning
Being as knowledgeable about pulmonary fibrosis as you can without question vital; it makes living with the condition and managing it much easier. Being thoroughly informed also helps you understand the signs of an emergency a lot more quickly, which can prevent many complications.
